“The Hour”
Do you remember excitedly waiting for some event to arrive as a kid? I remember the excitement of anticipating Christmas, as well as our annual family trip to Six Flags Over Texas. The night before each of these, I was hardly able to sleep.
Now imagine Christ waiting for an event to arrive, only He didn’t wait a year for the next Christmas or the next trip. He waited from eternity past for the exact right hour to arrive within time and space. The gospel of John treks this wait during Jesus’ incarnation. Several times Jesus won’t allow something because His “hour has not yet come.” Other times Jesus speaks of “an hour” that “is coming.” Talk about an anticipated hour!
In John 12 when Andrew and Philip reported to Jesus that some Greeks who were worshipping at the feast were asking to see Him, it garnered the following words from Jesus, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” The hour has come! This series, “The HOUR,” follows the events associated with Jesus’ statements about this hour through John’s gospel. We will trek its mention from the first time it was stated to the announcement that the hour has arrived in chapter 12, going on the crucifixion and resurrection. The long wait from eternity past arrived, glory to God!
