Peter is one of the most important and endearing characters of the New Testament. The raw truth of his personality and flaws makes him a helpful character to study for our own sanctifying edification. He was a rugged fisherman on a sea that was notorious for sudden storms of hurricane force. Peter’s personality was just as tumultuous. He could support or oppose fiercely, even opposing Jesus at once point. A brief examination of his responses to several situations, as well as his later life seen through his epistles, will demonstrate his spiritual maturation. One can see the tension in his struggles with current understanding verses spiritually opened eyes. This, to say the least, is instructive to anyone who studies the Scripture where Peter is involved.
