About Jonathan & Susan Koph Papua New Guinea
Jonathan and Susan Kopf have been serving as missionaries among the Hewa tribal people in the rugged mountains of central Papua New Guinea since January 2000. Affiliated with Ethnos360 (formerly New Tribes Mission), their ministry focuses on translating and teaching the Bible, as well as assisting the Hewa community in adapting to a changing world. Upon their arrival, the Kopfs, alongside their team members Keith and Angie Copley, dedicated themselves to learning the Hewa language and culture. By 2005, they had translated enough scripture to begin teaching an overview of the Bible, leading to the establishment of the Hewa church later that year. Jonathan continues to translate and teach the New Testament, while Susan, a trained nurse, operates a village medical clinic and has developed an education program for the community. Their efforts also include providing literacy education and simple medical training, supporting the Hewa believers as they share the Gospel with neighboring villages.
Through their unwavering commitment, Jonathan and Susan have witnessed significant spiritual growth among the Hewa people, including the rise of local church elders who now help lead and disciple their community. Their ministry exemplifies a holistic approach to missions, encompassing spiritual teaching, medical assistance, and educational development to foster a self-sustaining and mature faith community among the Hewa.

In addition to their on-the-ground ministry, Jonathan authored a book detailing their experiences in the deep jungle of Papua New Guinea, offering readers insight into their journey and the transformation within the Hewa community. “Canopy of Darkness” by Jonathon Koph is available in our library or Amazon.
